We, the People, Mourn the Death of Individual Freedom
1776 - 2010

The Declaration of Independence adopted by the Continental Congress in Philadelphia on July 4, 1776 eloquently enumerated human rights shared by all and carefully provided justification for separation from monarchial authority because of the violation of those rights by a tyrannical regime. Written primarily by Thomas Jefferson, the Declaration explains to "a candid World" why the American people had taken the extraordinary step of declaring independence from Great Britain and of forming a new nation, the Declaration's universal message of equality spoke not only to the founding fathers' generation but also to future generations and people around the world struggling to throw off oppression. Its words inspired Abraham Lincoln's Gettysburg Address, the abolitionist's movement against slavery, women seeking the vote, Martin Luther King's "I have a Dream" speech, the shipyard workers of Gdansk in the streets of Prague opposed to the Soviet Union, and students confronting communist tanks in Tiananmen Square, and billions of other people struggling against tyranny. The Declaration of Independence instructed the government to recognize the personal dignity of the individual. The idea is that each person should have the ability to live their own life with liberty instead of being ruled by others, in order to achieve self worth.

On March 23, 2010, President Obama attempted to strip the American citizen of those Creator endowed inalienable rights that were so eloquently described by Thomas Jefferson. The United States of America's Executive and Legislative branches and the bureaucracies they endow with power over our lives and property no longer will recognize the personal dignity and liberty of the individual.

MillionMedMarch mourns the loss of freedom and joins with other patriots in opposition to this massive shift away from individual liberty and as our forefathers we pledge our lives, treasure, and sacred honor to the preservation of liberty for all.
